EDUCATION Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly continued her school visits on Monday, this time in the northeastern part of Trinidad.
Matelot Community College was the first school she arrived at along with newly appointed Chief Education Officer Dr Peter Smith and acting Director of School Supervision Joy Griffith.
In a press release on Tuesday, the Ministry of Education stated that Matelot RC Primary was next, followed by Grand Riviere AC, Monte Video Government Primary, San Souci RC Primary and L’Anse Noire Moravian Primary.
As the team moved forward, the next stop was Toco RC Primary, Toco (St. David’s) AC Primary, Toco Government Secondary, Cumana RC School, Cumana AC Primary with the final stop at Cumana SDA School.
At each school, the Education Minister and executive had the opportunity to hear and see, firsthand, some of the schools’ history, successes and challenges, and to discuss their experience with the return to physical classes.
Dr Gadsby-Dolly interacted with pupils, sharing words of advice and encouragement, and even joined in executing some netball catches at Cumana AC School.
She told pupils, “Despite the challenges of the last two years, your education remains a priority and should continue to work as hard as you can. Your teachers, principal, parents, and all of us at the Ministry of Education have your best interest at heart. We want you to succeed. Be sure to adhere to the safety protocols and focus on your schoolwork.”
Tuesday’s tour was the ninth in the series of school tours since the re-opening of the physical school, the ministry stated.
