POLITICAL Leader of the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) Watson Duke has asked Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar for a job.
And she is considering it.
Duke said on Thursday he had issued communication to Persad-Bissessar who was asked about it at her post Cabinet media briefing later that day.
She responded, “You know, I’ll be brutally honest. Watson Duke did send me congratulations. He also did ask me for a job. I’ll be honest, I did get it. And certainly, we are considering it.”
On Thursday, Duke at a press conference applauded the United National Congress (UNC) campaign mantra: “When UNC wins, everybody wins,” saying he was one that will be winning along with the ordinary man on the street who needed food to eat.
In further response to Persad-Bissessar statements, Duke confirmed he did write a letter which was sent via TTPost and it is expected to be received at the Office of the Prime Minister.
He also confirmed, “I called her. I did congratulate her.”
In a video sent to Wyze TV, Duke said he informed Persad-Bissessar that he was willing to work for and on behalf of the people of Tobago.
He said, “I am very much concerned about the livelihood of my people, I am very much concerned about the policy that shaped the lives of my people and so in that regard I made myself available.
“It is good for the prime minister to put it on the table. It is also good for her to consider it. Because all persons of Trinidad and Tobago, Tobago and Trinidad should make themselves available for the building up of their country.”
Duke, an assemblyman in the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), said he was concerned with discussions held between the Persad-Bissessar and THA Chief Secretary Farley Augustine and policies being brought forward claiming they were not yet shared with the THA.
He said his letter mentioned that Tobagonians want to be involved in the decision making process for Tobago especially when it comes to their political status as an island.
“The letter had to deal with Tobago’s right to self-determination and not asking for autonomy,” Duke said.
