Drug Bust at Millennium Park

ONE Chinese immigrant was charged and three others arrested after a drug bust at Millennium Park in Trincity on Wednesday.

Police seized $8 million worth of illegal drugs.

A release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) on Saturday stated that Jaicheng Jiang, 26, was among the four arrested and has been charged by PC Gerald of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) with possession of a dangerous drug, Ketamine, for the purpose of trafficking.

Ketamine is a medication that doctors use as an anaesthetic to induce loss of consciousness and its effects include sedation and reduced sensation of pain, according to the website MedicalNewsToday.

Other arrested were two men ages 38 and 29 and a woman 27 who were found at the house at Olympia Avenue.

Police reported that on Wednesday during an anti-crime exercise in the Northern  Division under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Central Intelligence Bureau, Deosaran, a search warrant for firearms and ammunition was executed at a residence located at Olympia Avenue.

During a search officers found and seized 201 glass vials, each labelled ‘Ketamin 10% INJ 23ml for Veterinary Use Only.’

They also seized 76 Zip Lock packets each containing a white crystal-like substance resembling the dangerous drug Ketamine which weighed 12.7 kilogrammes, with a street value of 8,623,300.

The release stated that TT$33,775 currency in polymer notes, Yen$865 and TT$53 currency in cotton notes and a quantity of apparatus were also seized.

On Friday, a detention order was granted by Magistrate Brambhanan Dubay at the Arima Magistrate Court with respect to the quantity of cash seized at the premises, pending further investigations in accordance with the Proceeds of Crime Act.

The Immigration Division is conducting inquiries as all nationals were in the country illegally.
