WITH more persons being vaccinated and the observance of the public health protocols, Trinidad and Tobago can continue to see a downward trend in Covid-19 positive cases.
This according to epidemiologist Dr Avery Hinds at the Prime Minister’s media conference on Saturday.
Using graphs to make his point, he said, “The numbers of cases which we see from day to day are just about the same height in July. Some are a little higher. So from July into August you see a fairly steady number of cases, day to day and week to week which is what we call a plateau.”
He also said that there was an overall downward trend in some counties from weeks 32 to 33 from one week to a next. In areas such as St. Joseph Central and St Joseph East there has been a slight increase.
Dr Hinds said, “Between July and now with preliminary data coming in for Saturday’s testing we would note that the total for this week was just about the same. Maybe three per cent than the total of each week. Still holding relatively steady.”
Of the positive cases, men and women were basically demonstrated at the same pattern with a similar number of males to females.
And the death rate was still in majority among older persons of many whom had comorbidities, Dr Hinds indicated.
