ALL counties in Trinidad and Tobago are experiencing an increase in Covid-19 cases.
This according to Epidemiologist Dr Avery Hinds at the Prime Minister’s press conference at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann’s on Saturday.
He said every county has had an increase in their weekly totals.
Dr Hinds said, “There have been a few counties with a fairly steady increase over the past few weeks, but now there’s a bigger jump between week 43 and 44 than in some of the corresponding weeks.
“We are seeing some acceleration even at the county level, with each county experiencing the same thing.”
He said there was also an “upswing of the rolling average” since the start of November, with the first two weeks of the month, showing a steeper upward slant.
Dr Hinds said the steady increase of week-on-week began on a smaller scale but then got larger and was a cause for concern.
When the data was examined on a monthly scale, he said, “October was a bit higher than the last three months with November rapidly catching up and we have not reached halfway through November, but the numbers were just approaching half of the total for October relatively quickly.”
He added that the monthly percentage for November hovered above 35% as opposed to the 25 to 30% from July to October.
Dr Hinds stated that the age group 25 to 49 accounted for half the amount of Covid-19 cases and the female and male distribution remained even.
In terms of fatalities, he described the pyramid as “top-heavy” where the higher numbers and ages were above 60 years old which corresponds to two-thirds of the actual fatalities.
