HOME treatment for Covid-19 is not being recommended at this time especially as many such patients are showing up at the hospitals while at death’s door.
This is according to Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh who spoke at the Ministry of Health’s virtual media conference on Monday.
There have been several reports of persons being treated at home, sometimes with the wrong medication and many were showing up at the parallel healthcare system critically ill and in need of urgent care creating a strain on the system.
Deyalsingh said, “ The issue is people are accepting care in their private homes, decompensating at their home and then turning up at the parallel healthcare system on the verge of death, refusing to come in. Yesterday Dr Fraser had to spend one hour convincing one person and that person did not come in. Home treatment for Covid is not recommended at this point in time.”
The minister said, “We ask you, if you are Covid positive, to come in as early as possible to save your life, to get tested regardless of your status.”
Those vaccinated will have that added layer of protection from the Covid-19 virus and he reminded the public that vaccines were available across country.
He added that no private hospital has been debarred from caring for Covid-19 patients and one hospital in Chaguanas was treating Covid-19 patients.
