MOST of the population is not taking the Government’s decision to extend the state of emergency (SoE) for another three months until November 2021 very well.
Many citizens believe this is overkill and are very much against the extension and question whether it’s really working to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Since the SoE, we have not seen any significant decrease in Covid-19 cases over the last three months, so why continue to suffer citizens and take away their rights for another three months.
The SoE appears to be ineffective at this time.
Government has not provided any scientific data to the people to warrant another three months of lockdown and citizens haven’t been able to recover financially with the impact of the SoE on a struggling economy.
Why is the Government extending the SoE? Have we seen a decrease in the cases because of the SoE? In many instances the opinion is no.Having the curfew for another three months would only cause undue hardship and more stress for those people that cannot seem to catch themselves and who have already lost so much during the pandemic.
So many people cannot make ends meet, pay their rents and their landlords are throwing them out of their homes.
So many people have employers cutting their work hours or have lost their jobs because of the 9 pm to 5 am curfew.
We just cannot understand the logic of another extended SoE as the data to support this decisions just is not there.
Once again, the Rowley’s led Government is operating by guess, by vaps, without care or concern of what the common man on the street feels.
The people’s voices are stifled yet we have no empirical data that will inform us of why they are making such a decision.
We have often heard the saying that “the voice of the people is the voice of God.” This comes the Latin saying Vox Populi, Vox Dei which stresses that we the people must have a say in the running of our country without being rule by dictatorial decree.
People rights and privileges cannot be taken away in this manner for such a long time as it affects every aspect of our lives.
The effects of this extended curfew on the retail sector and on the economy must be taken into consideration.
Many businesses are starting from scratch again after the retail sector was shutdown for months and now with an extended lockdown again, it will affect how they can continue to employ staff or sell their goods to make a profit.
Closing their doors earlier than normal has affected their sales and hit their bottom line with these businesses making no profits for such a long time.
This Government wasn’t voted in to be a dictatorship but to care about our citizens, their lives and livelihoods, however, if they continue down this road we will have no livelihood and therefore we will have no life.
