NO approval has yet been granted for any local distributor to be involved in the importation of the Covid-19 vaccines.
Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said while an application was made by one company to the Chemistry Food and Drugs Division to import the AstraZeneca vaccine, no final approval was given.
Speaking in the Senate on Monday, Deyalsingh said the company from Port-of-Spain, Vary Medical and Scientific Company Ltd, would have applied sometime in the last month. The company was responded to with a list of the requirements they will need to follow he added.
He was responding to questions fielded by Opposition Senator Wade Mark.
Deyalsingh said, “Since 1993, the National Insurance Property Development Company Ltd (NIPDEC) is the agent for the procurement, storage and distribution of vaccines on behalf of the Government. This instance, COVAX, the African Council or any other arrangement will follow the same procedure and practice as stated.”
