VENEZUELA’S Vice President Delcy Rodríguez on Saturday condemned remarks of the Minister in the Ministry of Housing Phillip Edward Alexander, about a supposed “nuclear weapons” attack by India against Venezuela to defend the Caribbean nation.

“The only nuclear bomb dropped into the brain of this official’s newly-taken government. Trinidad and Tobago should think of its people before they intend to attack Venezuela, and renounce their vassage to the US government that intends to steal our immense energy resources. They could not and will not with our determination to freedom and self-determination, widely exercised in our diplomacy of peace,” Rodríguez wrote on her Facebook account.

Rodríguez’s post included an image of a media article citing the Trinidad and Tobago minister’s social media comments.  Alexander and Trinidad and Tobago’s government had not immediately responded publicly to Rodríguez’s remarks.

Alexander on Tuesday said he made the statement that India could “nuke” Venezuela during a Facebook live and that he would stay in his “lane” in reference to Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar warning ministers about speaking out of turn.

The exchange follows recent tensions between Caracas and Port of Spain as the US has increased its miliatry presence in the Caribbean Sea and bombed three vessels in its fight against “narco-terrorism.”

Persad-Bissessar is fully supportive of the US exercise in the region.
