THE 40,000 promised AstraZeneca vaccines from India have not yet arrived in the country and there is no confirmed date as to when they may arrive.
This is according to Principal Medical Officer, Institutions, Dr Maryam Abdool Richards, during the Ministry of Health’s virtual media conference on Monday.
She said, “The actual importation date has been delayed, there are circumstances that are beyond our control. The Ministry of Health will provide updates once a confirmed date is given.”
When asked about the vaccines from China, Abdool Richards said the World Health Organization (WHO) had not yet given final approval and an update from WHO was expected to be given at the end of this month and therefore the Ministry will not approve use of that particular vaccine until approval has been signed off by the WHO.
