DECEMBER 6 has been declared the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) election day.
The announcement was made by THA’s Chief Secretary Ancil Dennis at a post executive council media briefing on Wednesday.
Dennis said it was about time the THA moved forward following the six-six deadlock in January and he was relieved and happy to make the announcement.
Parliamentary provisions have been made to have the electoral districts increase to 15 from 12 in Tobago.
Dennis said, “I think it is about time we get back to the polls and resolve this. it has not been easy. It has not been easy leading this island through a pandemic but at the same time under a stalemate arrangement where you have a six-six tie and therefore the requirement to operate with restraint existed and we simply could not do all the things we hoped to do under this arrangement.”
The two major parties to be contesting the election would be the People’s National Movement (PNM) led in Tobago by Tracy Davidson-Celestine and the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) headed by Watson Duke.
