A 21-YEAR-OLD security guard has appeared in court charged with the murder of Savanna Dyer, 20.
Kibwe Wells, of East Dry River, Port of Spain, was charged with the offence, when he appeared before Master Whitney Franklyn, in the North Court ‘C’, on Monday, a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated.
The sufficiency hearing date has been set for February 2, 2026.
Dyer, 20, a clerk, of River Estate Road, Diego Martin, was found dead along Carlsen Field Road, Freeport, on June 14.
Wells was arrested three days later in connection with the matter.
Wells was charged with the murder on June 21, by PC Shawn Lall, also of HBI Region Three, following advice received from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard SC, on that same date.
Investigations were spearheaded by Supt Steve Persad and supervised by Sgt Donny Bridgemohan, both of Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region Three.
Man in court for father’s murder
The TTPS also disclosed on Tuesday that a 45-year-old man was ordered to undergo an assessment at St Ann’s Psychiatric Hospital, after he appeared in court charged with the murder of his father, Peter Banfield.
Christopher Banfield, of Flanagin Town near Tabaquite was charged with the offence when he appeared before Master Whitney Franklin in North Court ‘C’, on Monday.
The matter is expected next be heard on July 8.
Peter Banfield, 75, also of Flanagin Town, was found dead in his kitchen on June 12.
A male relative was subsequently arrested by officers of the Central Division, in connection with the matter.
Investigations were spearheaded by ASP Anil Maharaj and supervised by Sgt Donny Bridgemohan, both of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region Three.
The accused was charged with the offence by WPC Ramroop, also of HBI Region Three, on June 18, following advice received from Acting Assistant DPP Sabrina Dougdeen-Jaglal, on that same date.
Man arrested for rape in Chaguanas
And a 50-year-old man who was arrested for rape in Chaguanas was amongst eight suspects arrested for various offences including kidnapping and robbery with violence.
They were arrested during anti-crime operations in the Central Division on Monday, the TTPS stated in a media release on Tuesday.
In the first exercise, officers of the Chaguanas Criminal Investigations Department (CID), conducted an exercise in Chaguanas between 8 am and 12 noon during which the 50-year-old from Cunupia was arrested in connection with a rape report made last Saturday.

That exercise was coordinated by Supt Glodon, ASP Dipchand and Insp Conliffe.
In the second exercise that day, officers of the Couva CID and the Central Division Task Force, Area South, conducted an exercise between 6 and 2 pm in the Couva district.
The exercise led to the arrest of five suspects, ages 25 to 42, for burglary-related offences and two men, ages 53 and 45, in connection with a report of kidnapping and robbery with violence.
Investigations are ongoing into all of the above matters, the TTPS stated.
