FOR tearing a page out of a book, a Belmont father beat his four-year-old son with a belt.
The father is expected to appear virtually before a Port of Spain Magistrate on Monday to answer to charges of child cruelty.
On Sunday, police reported that the charge stemmed from a report in July, where a woman reported to the Port-of-Spain Child Protection Unit (CPU) detectives that she observed bruises and several marks on her son’s back.
She told police that her son allegedly began complaining about pain in the area and later confided in her that his father beat him with a belt. The suspect was subsequently charged with child cruelty.
Investigations into the incident were spearheaded by acting Supt Claire Guy-Alleyne.
Charged for spraying woman with noxious substance
A 66-year-old Valencia man has been charged for administering a noxious substance with intent to a woman.
Police reports stated that Robin Sirjoosingh was charged following a report on December 10.
He was granted $60,000 bail with surety by a Justice of Peace on Sunday and will appear before a Sangre Grande Magistrate on January 6, 2022, to answer to the charge.
Police stated that the woman was at her home when she saw a man spraying a substance from a mist blower in close proximity to where her sons and nephews were playing.
The victim expressed her concerns but all her pleads were ignored and it is alleged that Sirjoosingh sprayed in her direction, which left a burning sensation in her nostrils.
The victim attempted to wash it off, however, attempts to remove the substance proved futile and later caused her to vomit on several occasions.
She reported the incident to the Valencia Police Post and sought medical attention.
Investigations were launched by acting Cpl Khan and WPC Gonzales which resulted in Sirjoosingh’s arrest, and he was later charged.
Tradesman charged for sex with 16-year-old
A 43-year-old-tradesman is expected to appear before a San Fernando Magistrate on Monday charged with three counts of sexual penetration and one count of common assault of a 16-year-old girl.
Police reports stated that the teen was sexually penetrated sometime between January 25 to May 1.
In addition, it was also reported that the victim was choked on August 10 by a familiar male.
The Southern Division Child Protection Unit conducted enquiries, which led to the arrest and charge of the suspect on December 11. Charges were laid by WPC Ramroop and the investigation was headed by acting Superintendent of Police Claire Guy-Alleyne.
