TWO men were shot dead, a teenager died in a vehicular accident, two men were shot at and a doubles vendor robbed on Saturday.
Police reported that around 5pm, first responders attended to a report of loud explosions heard at 4th Street West, Dinsley Gardens.
Upon arrival, they were directed to the home of Marcus Edwards, 33, where they found his body, sitting on a chair on the north western side of a room suffering from gunshot wounds.
The officers saw several spent shells on an adjacent chair, on the floor and in the yard.
Enquiries revealed that around 4.40pm, residents heard several loud explosions and discovered the Edwards unresponsive.
The District Medical Officer visited the scene, viewed the body and ordered its removal.
Enquiries are continuing.
Shot in Arima
Around 7.45pm, PC Samaroo and a party of officers of the Northern Division Task Force, area east, responded to a report of loud explosions at Temple Street, Arima.
The officers saw several spent shell casings on the road. Police said that Junior Cuddling, 28, of Temple Street and Andrew Lawrence, of Ackbarali Street, Malabar, were conveyed to the Arima Health Facility to seek medical attention where Cuddling was pronounced dead.
The scene was processed by Northern Division Crime Scene Unit.
Also present were officers of the Arima CID and Homicide region 2.
Collision with a concrete wall
A 19-year-old died in a vehicular accident on Saturday when he attempted to overtake a vehicle driven by his brother. Police reported that around 3.40pm, Alex Sookraj, 19, of Manzanilla Mayaro Road, Manzanilla, was driving his vehicle, a beige Lancer, west along the Manzanilla Mayaro Road when upon reaching the vicinity of the government primary school, he attempted to overtake a silver Volkswagen Bora driven by his brother Shane Sookraj, 21.
In so doing, he came into contact with the driver’s door causing his vehicle to lose control. It ran off the road on the eastern side and collided with a concrete wall where he died upon impact.
PC Mohammed and PC Bellingy, of the Manzanilla Police Station, responded along with Mayaro Fire Service under the supervision of FSSO Gopaul.
The body was removed to the Sangre Grande hospital mortuary pending a post mortem. The scene was visited by Ag Insp Ramlakhan.
“PH” driver shot in Morvant
Around 11.30am, “PH” driver Richard Marquez, 33, reported that he was plying his white Nissan Tiida for hire and proceeding in an easterly direction in the vicinity of Never Dirty, Morvant, when he heard several loud explosions in the distance.
A few moments later, he felt a burning sensation to his neck, exited his vehicle and was assisted by a passer-by who then conveyed him to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital to seek medical attention.
Officers attached to the Morvant CID, proceeded to the hospital in an attempt to interview the victim. However, they were unable to do so as he was heavily medicated. The officers also spoke to the doctor who indicated that the victim received a non-life threatening injury to his neck and is warded in a stable condition.
Assisted by passer-by
Around 8.30pm on Saturday, Carlon Joseph, 25, was standing in the roadway along 9th Street, Malick, Barataria, when he observed a silver Nissan Tiida proceeding in a westerly direction along the street following which he got shot in his back. He was then taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex by a passer-by to seek medical attention. Joseph was medically examined and treated by Dr Lalchan who indicated that he suffered a gunshot wound to the left side of his lower back and the injury was non-life threatening.
Robbed of cellphone by three teenaged suspects.
A doubles vendor was robbed in Claxton Bay by three teenagers – two 19-yearl old and a 15-year-old.
Police reported that Saski Khan, 23, from Coronation Street, Aranguez was conducting a sales transaction around 1.20pm when he was approached by three suspects.
They announced a hold up and dealt the victim several blows about his body and proceeded to rob him of one iPhone 11 valued $5,000.
They escaped in a gold Nissan Sylphy. Khan attempted to chase after the vehicle but upon reaching Ramsaroop Trace, Claxton Bay, lost sight of the vehicle to which he made a report to the Command Centre.
PC Ramadhin and a party of officers of the St Margaret’s Police Station responded and intercepted the vehicle along Southern Main Road St Margaret’s, in the vicinity of Flower Pot Bay and all three suspects were arrested.
The iPhone 11 was also recovered.
