ENTERPRISE– THERE has been a drop in murders in Enterprise, Chaguanas by 86 percent.
This according to acting Sergeant Jacey Small, at the weekly police brief on Wednesday.
He said there has only been one murder in Enterprise for 2019.
Small said in 2016, 15 people were murdered there, and in 2018 there were 24 shootings and wounding with only three recorded for the year thus far.
He said compared to the past five years, other crimes have also decreased including larceny with only six this year so far compared to 17 in the whole of 2016.
Small noted that in 2016 there were 28 reports of robberies with only nine being recorded for the year so far.
He said for 2019, there has been one report of motor vehicle theft, and no reports of robberies of homes in Enterprise while 35 people have been arrested for narcotics offences for the year.
Small attributed the decrease in crime to the focus on community policing, peace walks, and participation in youth clubs.
He said, “We were able to increase the membership, in the Enterprise area alone, by over 100 persons joining the police youth clubs”
