WATER from the roof of the Parliament building in Port-of-Spain leaked onto Social Development and Family Services Minister Donna Cox as she was speaking in the Senate on Tuesday
As a result, the Senate was suspended for ten minutes by Senate’s President Christine Kangaloo.
Cox was making her presentation to the 2022 Budget debate.
“The ministry will extend its resources,” she said as a drop of water fell on her forehead.
She then said, “Excuse me, Madam President. I am getting wet here.”
The minister was previously listing the ministry’s initiatives to assist the most vulnerable in society.
When the Senate resumed, she continued her presentation from her seat. Before, she was making her presentation from the speaking booth.
The live stream on YouTube was also split due to the suspension.
Last year, days after the grand reopening of newly refurbished Red House, a leaky roof was exposed due to showers of rain. That was also on a Tuesday afternoon in January.
The House of Parliament was refurbished at a cost of $441 million.
The Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDECOTT) said then that the leak was due to a broken rubber seal.
