A Couva man has been arrested for the possession of ammunition, while, in a separate incident, a firearm and two magazines have been found in Cleaver Heights.
A press release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) on Tuesday stated that anti-crime exercises conducted by the Northern and Central Divisions on Monday resulted in the arrest of one man and the seizure of a firearm and a quantity of ammunition.
The release stated Officers of the Central Division Task Force arrested a Carolina Village, Couva man for unlawful possession of a quantity of ammunition during an exercise between 10 pm Monday and 3.30 am Tuesday.
The exercise was coordinated by Supt Fitzworme, ASP Reyes, ASP Hernandez and Insp Francis.
In the Northern Division, the release stated, officers of the Arima Intel/Operations Unit located an illegal firearm and two magazines of ammunition hidden in a plastic bag in a bushy area of Cleaver Heights.
The exercise was carried out in the Arima district on Monday, between 8 pm and midnight.
Coordinating the exercise was ACP Simon, Senior Supt Maynard-Wilson, Supt. Etienne, ASP Pitt, ASP Ablacksingh, ASP Jones and Insp Estrada.
All matters are under ongoing investigation.
