SO it begins today, after a change of country due to Covid-19 and a court battle in Brazil it will begin at 5pm with Brazil vs Venezuela.
Surpsingly, Uruguay has the most Copa America titles with 15 with Argentina at 14 and Brazil at nine.
It was established in 1916 and is the oldest of all the continental competitions. Brazil are the defending champions and will be looking for a 10th title. While Argentina with Messi will be looking for their 15th. Amazingly, Argentina has not held the title since 1993 and were runners up in 2015 and 2016.
Hopefully Messi can lift a title this time. Below shows the last three title winners and runner up:
Edition Year Winners Runners‑up
46 2019 Brazil Peru
45 2016 Chile Argentina
44 2015 Chile Argentina
In this tournament we will see some of the best players in the world including the very best in Messi and Neymar. It should be a cracking contest and hope fully we ca dream of a Brazil vs Argentina finals (only if).
The tournament has been grouped out as follows:
GROUP A
BROUP B
BRAZIL
ARGENTINA
COLOMBIA
BOLIVIA
ECUADOR
CHILE
PERU
PARAGUAY
VENEZUELA
URUGUAY
Brazil face our neighbours Venezuela in opening match. I expect this to be an easy victory for Brazil. I predict a big win of 4-0. Brazil will want to start well and they should against this Venezuelan team.
At 8pm we can see Columbia vs Ecuador. This will be a closer game and maybe a 1-1 draw. Columbia are at a rebuilding stage and took the decision to exclude James Rodriquez. A bold move to say the least.
So let the South American flair begin – beautiful football and wonder goals. This will be a treat for us all. My pick is Argentina (again) and hopefully I can be on the winning side this time. So follow me for all the commentary only on AZPNews.com.
