Argentina 1 vs 0 Chile

By Gerald Lutchman

ARGENTINA dominated Chile in a game of missed and saved chances on Tuesday.

Argentina peppered Chile with 22 shots at goal forcing the Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo to make nine saves for the night. Argentina tried very hard to beak down the stubborn Chilean defence and in the second half Lionel Scaloni threw the kitchen sink at them by introducing Giovanni Lo Celso, Angel Di Maria and Laturo Martinez. It paid off in the 88th minute when Martinez scored the only goal of the game.

Argentina became the first team to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Copa with a game to spare. Chile have only one point after two games. This was a good win for Argentina having lost to Chile in the 2015 and 2016 finals sparking a temporary retirement for Lionel Messi.

Canada 1 vs 0 Peru

Jonathan David’s goal in the 74th minute was enough for Canada to secure all three points and give themselves a chance at the second round. Both teams failed to win their first game and this defeat means Peru have little chance of advancing. In a lackluster and boring game, the Canadians were able to get the goal and secure the win.

Peru have a lot of problems scoring goals and it showed in this game where the net was again elusive. It did not help that Peru were down to ten men after Miguel Araujo was sent off in the 59th for a stud up tackle on Jacob Shaffelburg.
