CONVICT Jamal Joseph who escaped from Carrera Convict Prison last Friday has been recaptured.

He was recaptured following a coordinated response between police officers and the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service, a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) confirmed on Tuesday.

The TTPS reported that round 3 pm on Monday, officers of the Carenage Police Station received information from prison personnel that the escaped inmate had been spotted along the Western Main Road in the vicinity of Tembladora Park.

Police officers on mobile patrol immediately responded to the report and met with prison officers already on scene.

 According to reports, while driving south along the Western Main Road around 2.30 pm, a prison officer observed an unusual object in the water that aroused his suspicion.

Upon checking further, he identified the object as the escaped inmate, who appeared to have sustained multiple injuries during his escape.

 The TTPS officers assisted in escorting the injured prisoner to a medical facility, where he is currently receiving medical attention under the supervision of prison officials.

 The TTPS commended the swift action of both police and prison officers, whose vigilance and collaboration led to the safe recapture of the escapee, the release stated.

 Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the escapee are ongoing.
