The People’s National Movement (PNM) had their one-year anniversary of their second term in office under Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and it passed very quietly on August 10, 2021 compared to the grand celebrations of the previous years.

Dr Rowley posted a message of gratitude to our population for making what he called the “right choice.”

However, after six years under the PNM leadership we are facing increased prices by approximately 30% from January to August of this year.

Under his leadership since 2015, some $300 billion was spent without proper accountability to the population yet we face some undeniable issues such as incompetence initially in the vaccine rollout, now vaccine hesitation with improper education of the population on why it’s so important to get vaccinated.

The Rowley-led press conferences and briefing sessions have become long and drawn out. It is more like a political meeting where he blames everyone and everything else, but focusing on giving proper information to the people or dealing with the competency of his team.

We are facing the collapse of the economy, the critical crisis of the retail sector, the virtual none existence of forex and still thousands of our students without tablets or devices or internet access in the most poverty-stricken areas that really need to be online-class ready.

We have seen allegations of corruption in the distribution of social grants without proper disclosure of how this occurred. We have seen all of this with nothing to really show how the $300 billion was spent.

On August 10, 2020, the PNM was victorious at the general election, winning 22 of the 41 seats, with the United National Congress (UNC) triumphant in 19.

This is the second consecutive victory by the Rowley led Government but all we as a population can see after six years is that we are in the red, owing monies on all the international borrowing to support this $300 billion bill spent.

We see red everywhere. We see red in our eyes we see red in our income, we see red in our pockets, we see red in our bottom line and we see red on the streets where our livelihoods are drying up.

We see our citizens suffering from the economic fallout as well as the ravages of the virus in our strain health system.

The effects on the economic fallout, the high unemployment level, the inequality of the less fortunate and the crisis seen in the economy from the retail sector due to the virtual shutting down of the country for almost a-year-and-a-half have left us only seeing red.

Were we really ready for the red.
