Commentary: Pros, cons of Covid-19 Jab

WE have two choices – get the vaccine or not get the vaccine.

In the first choice we must trust the science and all the research that has gone into its development and hope this gets us back to life before Covid-19.

Trust that it will be our first step to get us back to normal faster. A place where we can hug our parents and grandparents; where we can sit in a restaurant or bar and have a meal or drink a beverage; where we can travel with freedom of movement; or where we can once more enjoy our beaches.

The side effects of taking the jab far outweighs the alternative of not taking the vaccine – long term effects or possible heart or lung damage, blood clotting or even death.

Not taking it is wait and see – do nothing and hope that we do not get Covid19. This ensures we accept the new normal where face masks must be worn in public, social distancing, washing hands, limited gatherings, limited access to beaches, parks, gyms, restaurants, bars and places of worship.

This choice would have many disadvantages as well as psychological, economic and social effects for our generations to come. The information available to us on Covid-19 and why we should or should not get vaccinated is confusing to say the least. And then there are many conspiracy theories – which vaccine is better than the other and far out theories such as ethnic cleansing.

This puts pressure on husbands, wives, family members, friends and the business community, as each individual has his own views on whether to take the jab.

In the end, we are all entitled to our opinions and each person should respect the personal views of each other – it is your choice.

It’s important that we still have our fundamental right of freedom of choice but the simple fact of the matter is
getting the vaccine is a personal choice.

One should not force one’s opinion on another person.

Both choices have ramifications and long-term effects to our future personally and publicly.

It is my humble opinion getting the vaccine out weights the risks of not taking it.

That’s why I got my Covid-19 vaccine.
