THE cocaine that washed ashore in Tobago on Sunday did not originate from the sunken barge that is leaking fuel oil.
This according to National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds in response to a question in the Senate on Tuesday.
He said, “Based on information from the police, on the balance of probabilities, it appears to them thus far, and the matter is still under investigation, that that package that was found was not necessarily related to that vessel.”
The cocaine weighing approximately 1.109 kilograms, with an estimated street value of TT$515,285.76, was discovered washed ashore at a beach in Tobago on Sunday.
Initial information provided by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) suggests that this drug find is not believed to have originated from the unidentified vessel responsible for an oil spill in the same area.
Hinds said that according to police information, no police uniforms or tactical gear were found in conjunction with the cocaine.
