THE Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) is being offered free food supplies from citizens over the next six months.
The supplies will be provided by the group Citizens Union of Trinidad and Tobago headed by Phillip Edward Alexander.
He said in a statement on Monday that this was necessary so that proper patrolling of the borders can be done which would help curb the spread of Covid-19 in T&T.
Alexander said despite the Government spending billions on national security which should cover basic needs, it apparently was not enough.
He said, “We hope that our offer would prompt other bigger organisations as well as corporate T&T to offer to pick up the diesel tab so we can get our Coast Guard down to the business of guarding our coast expeditiously.
“Included in this offer, we would also like to sponsor all the airtime required to broadcast the live feed from the 360 degree radar 24/7 a week on social media, again also for the next six months, so that all those willing to keep a watch and help steer our security forces to possible breaches of our territorial waters, can.”
Alexander said the group was hoping that those in authority would accept the offer and that others would come on board.
He said, “We can begin the process of stopping the free flow of drugs, guns and human cargo across our borders, as well as end the migrant traffic responsible for the Covid-19 epidemic currently ravaging our country and killing our people.”
Alexander said, “Most importantly, we hope that this effort would prompt the government to stop with the stunting, blame gaming and excuse making, and get down to actual governing, which of course includes safeguarding the country for the protection of the citizenry, and the proper stewardship of the economy and use of taxpayers’ dollars for the betterment of everybody.”
