Central Bank Looking Forward to Working with Howai

THE Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago (CBTT) is looking forward to working with newly appointed Central Bank Governor Larry Howai.
In a media release on Thursday, CBTT reminded the population of Howai’s long and distinguished career now that he will be serving in his new position for the next five years.

Howai is a former minister of finance and the economy under the People’s Partnership administration led by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar during her first time in office.
Prior to joining the Cabinet in 2012, Howai served as chief executive officer of the First Citizens Group, one of the largest financial institutions in the English-speaking Caribbean.
CBTT  said that Howai has made significant contributions to the energy sector, having served as chairman of the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago and chairman of the National Energy Corporation.

Howai also held several other board appointments in the financial services and energy sectors both locally and regionally.
CBTT stated, “Mr Howai’s achievements have been widely recognised. He was named a Distinguished Alumnus of the University of the West Indies in 2010 and received the Award of Excellence from the Caribbean Association of Indigenous Banks in 2008.
“In 2004, he became an honorary Fellow of the Institute of Banking and Finance of Trinidad and Tobago. The management and staff of the Central Bank look forward to working closely with and supporting Governor Howai to advance the work of the Bank in service of the people of Trinidad and Tobago.”
