She was commenting on the PNM MPs selecting Port of Spain North/St Ann’s West Stuart Young to be the next leader of the party at a retreat in Tobago on Monday.

Persad-Bissessar said, “The next prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago must be chosen in a free and fair election… not behind closed doors in the shadows of a private retreat.”

She added, “The prime minister must be chosen by you.”

Persad-Bissessar demanded that the general elections be called now.

She said, “Today, the PNM replaced a lazy, greedy, selfish old man with an equally lazy, greedy, selfish young man.”

The political leader of the UNC said, “Rowley will leave as prime minister without a single achievement in his name.

“In ten years as a prime minister, and other years in politics, this man has built nothing, created nothing, developed nothing.”

Persad-Bissessar  said, “Stuart also has the same legacy for these ten years in government, he was the minister of everything who has achieved nothing.

“Minister of Communications, failed at that ministry. Minister of National Security, failed, and then he was Minister of Energy, he destroyed the oil and gas sector.”

She said  Young’s selection an “affront to democracy.”
