THE suspension and amelioration of the Demerit Point System, and five other matters of government business have been approved by cabinet.
Prime Minister Kalma Persad-Bissessar gave a rundown of approvals made at the government’s weekly cabinet meeting on Thursday during a press briefing held at the Red House, Port of Spain.
The first order of business was the request for the approval of the Issuance of an Order made under Section 88D of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic (Amendment) Act, 2017, to suspend and rectify the Demerit Point System.
Approvals were also made for the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (PATT) to issue two tenders. One, for the supply, installation and commissioning of two Non-Intrusive Inspection Cabinet X-ray Pallet Scanners. The other for a suitable cargo vessel to service the inter-island sea bridge.
An approval was also made for the purchase of one Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII) Scanner by the Point Lisas Industrial Port Development Corporation Limited.
Regarding the dissolution of the Trinidad and Tobago Revenue Authority (TTRA), the approval was given to amend the Income Tax Act, Chap. 75:01, and to establish regulations for the procedure of the Board of Inland Revenue (BIR) and other related matters.
Lastly approval was given for the Ministry of Education’s July/August 2025 Vacation School Repair Programme for Schools and other Facilities.
