UNVACCINATED employees at several business establishments are being asked to provide negative PCR tests at their own cost every two weeks.
Those persons not vaccinated will also have to take additional measures to protect themselves and others against the virus.
TGI has issued a letter to staff stating that prospective employees who are not vaccinated will have to provide a negative PCR test at their own expense every two weeks. Failure to do so will result in the member of staff being left off the roster. The letter has been shared on social media.
Additionally, any staff member who was unvaccinated will have to wear double mask and a plastic shield which will be provided by the company whenever they are at work.
The letter dated July 23 signed by Peter George stated, “ It is our responsibility to protect ourselves and those we interact with and to ensure to our customers that their satisfaction and their safety is important to us. Whilst I encourage everyone to look at the benefits of vaccination, I will still respect their right to make their own decision.”
And Nigel R Khan Bookseller also stated in a letter dated July 29, with effect August 2, the company will take a similar approach.
Its management stated, “In the event that you contract Covid-19, your sick leave does not extend to cover the virus. This as such shall be treated as no pay absence on your records.”
Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh has said that while vaccination remained a choice, he encouraged persons to “make the right choice.”
Opposition Member of Parliament Rudranath Indarsingh had repeatedly called for a government policy for employees and employers regarding the Covid-19 virus as a result of its impact on the workforce.
