MYANMAR – MORE than 120 bodies have been recovered and rescue efforts continue after a landslide at a jade mining site in northern Myanmar.
According to the BBC, the landslip was triggered by heavy rainfall in the area.
Myanmar is the world’s biggest source of jade had but there have been many accidents at the mines.
The Fire Service Department stated in a Facebook post that the miners were hit by a wave of mud, the BBC reported.
Police reportedly said lives would have been saved if people had heeded warnings for them not to work in the area after the rain.
For last year alone, more than 100 people died at mining sites in Myanmar.
