Editor and publisher of the book Caron Asgarali will be hosting a book launch and mini-market on Saturday at TropiFarm Fruits located at 183 Lower Rostant, Caparo. The event will celebrate the release of Hot Cocoa on a Rainy Day (10+1 Stories from Cancer Warriors), in collaboration with the SMARA Cancer Support Group founded by Patrica Tikasingh.
Hosted by veteran calypsonian Llewellyn “Short Pants” Mac Intosh, patrons will also get a taste of hot cocoa and fried bake, foods and drinks and experience a variety of booths, as well as hear inspirational stories from Cancer Warriors on their battles put together by Asagarli.
She told AZP News the book will cost $150 but, part of the proceedings will go towards SMARA to help in their continuous fight and support for cancer patients.
Asagarli said the second series of Hot Cocoa on a Rainy Day, ( 10+1) Stories from Cancer Warriors features cancer survivors, patients, caregivers and doctors, as they rose above their challenges, share advice on health and lifestle changes and become beacons of hope for others.
As a survivor of gun violence that drastically changed her life, Asagarli said lessons derived from the stories were transferable to one’s life.
“Each story brings a different perspective on how to deal with the challenges of something cancer in your life.
“So although you may not be a cancer patient, you may know someone who has cancer or you may be going through a different type of health challenge, but the trauma and degrees of coping are relatable.”
However, she admitted there were several challenges along the way, from compilation to editing with working with different persons, and with the added challenges of Covid-19.
Asgarali said during the launch, patrons will get a snippet of readings from all stories compiled in the book but encouraged persons to pre-order their copy early.
“As everyone can gain from these stories and they are equally uplifting,” she said.
Contributors to the book include Asgarali, Wayow, Carlene Bruno and Delia John-Ramsingh.
Asgarali said, “Hot Cocoa on a Rainy Day 10+1 Stories to Warm your Heart will also be available at $150, along with her other books such as Bounce Back Better: 10 (+1) Key Steps for Building Resilience for $150; From Lion to Lamb: A Spiritual Journey for $120, and Gently Powerful Personal Prayers for $80.)
