Armour is AG: Al-Rawi Demoted to Local Government

SENIOR COUNSEL Reginal Armour is the new Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago.

He replaces Faris Al-Rawi who has been demoted to the post of Minister of Local Government and Rural Development.

Without any hint or indication in public, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley made a Cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday.

Another surprise was the release from the Office of the Prime Minister stating that Clarence Rambharat was no longer Minister of Agriculture and had resigned.

His post was given to Kazim Hosein, the former minister of local government.

Rambharat was the only minister who was removed from his ministerial position and not given another.

The release stated that the Prime Minister has advised President Paula-Mae Weekes, in accordance with the provisions of Sections 3(9), 40(2)(a), 76(3) and 79(1) of the Constitution to make the changes with effect from Wednesday.

Revoked:

  • Faris Al Rawi as Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs;
  • Clarence Rambharat as Minister of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries;
  • Pennelope Beckles as Minister of Housing and Urban Development;
  • Camille Robinson-Regis as Minister of Planning and Development; and
  • Kazim Hosein as Minister of Local Government and Rural Development.

Appointed:

  • Reginald Armour as Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs;
  • Al-Rawi as Minister of Local Government and Rural Development;
  • Robinson-Regis as Minister of Housing and Urban Development;
  • Beckles as Minister of Planning and Development; and
  • Hosein as Minister of Agriculture, Lands and Fisheries.

Rambharat was also Leader of Government Business in the Senate has resigned.

Nigel de Freitas has also resigned as Vice President of the Senate to take up a post as Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture Lands and Fisheries with responsibility for Lands.

Senator Dr Muhammad Ibrahim will be appointed as Vice President of the Senate, the release stated.

The appointment of Yokymma Bethelmy as a Senator was also revoked.

Armour and Laurence Hislop will instead be appointed as Senators.
