AN illegal AR-15 rifle has been seized from a commercial property along North Coast Road, Diego Martin.

The discovery of the rifle, fitted with a magazine and strap, was made on Thursday during a coordinated anti-crime exercise.

According to a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), officers were conducting the exercise within the West End Police District between 10.30 am and 1.30pm.

The TTPS stated that as a result of surveillance conducted on the property, officers executed a search of a security booth on the compound. Officers discovered the rifle concealed in the ceiling of the booth.

“The item was safely retrieved, processed, and seized,” stated the TTPS, “It was taken to the West End Police Station where it remains secured, pending further investigation led by PC Belfon.”

The TTPS said the exercise was part of their ongoing efforts to reduce the prevalence of illegal firearms and enhance public safety.

The exercise was sanctioned by Senior Superintendent Williams, Superintendent Gyan, and W/ASP Aguilleria, coordinated by Ag/Insp Perry and Sgt. Joefield, and supervised by W/Ag Sgt. Bovell.

Operational support was provided by Cpl Carter, PCs Belfon, and Mercer, of the West End Police Station.

The TTPS urged members of the public to share any information that may have regarding illegal activities by contacting 555, 999 or the nearest police station.
