There have been reports of an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo where four people died.

Deyalsingh said, “The chances of Ebola reaching Trinidad and Tobago are close to zero.”

“There is now an approved vaccine for Ebola, which was approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) last year. The use of vaccines for Ebola is going to have a very positive impact on the possibility of that cluster of five cases becoming first an epidemic, and then a pandemic.”

Parasram said, “We are keeping an eye on this particular outbreak. There is a national Ebola plan.

“We are well placed to deal with any outbreaks as it relates to Ebola.”
