An online petition to have the board of Paria Fuel Trading Company removed nears 50,000 signatures.
The petition is posted on Change.org and is titled, “Dismiss the board of Paria Fuel Trading Company Limited pending investigations. Sealed into a Pipe. #Icannotbreathe.”
Started by attorney Vanessa Soobrattie it currently has just over 44,000 signatures.
The site states, “At 50,000 signatures, this petition becomes one of the top signed on Change.org.”
The petition was started on Tuesday.
It states, “On Friday 25th, 2022 at 2:30 pm, 5 divers were sucked into an oil pipe due to the negligence of Paria Fuel Trading Company Limited.
“It was reported thereafter that (name stated) and other persons instructed the Coast Guard to prevent volunteers from diving to save the men. However, a diver was able to save one man before Coast Guard threatened to shoot him if he tried to save another. The pipe was sealed and the men left to die.
“On Monday 28, 2022 at 6 pm, three divers’ dead bodies were recovered.”
Several organisations have called for the either the resignation or firing of the top management of the energy company following the incident at sea on Friday. The bloated bodies of Fyzal Kurban, Yusuf Henry and Kazim Ali Jr were found on Monday. And Rishi Nagassar’s body was discovered early Thursday morning.
Christopher Boodram is the sole survivor of the incident.
