THE historical change in the political arena in Tobago that took place on Monday must also come to Trinidad.
This is according to the political leader of the Progressive Empowerment Party (PEP) Phillip Alexander.
Alexander in a statement on Tuesday congratulated the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) for securing a massive win over the People’s National Movement (PNM) in the Tobago House of Assembly THA elections winning 14 out of 15 electoral districts.
He said, “As the nation awakes this morning to the news that change has come in Tobago, it stirs the heart that change must come to Trinidad too. As Tobago punished them the PNM for their disrespect and abuse over the years, for the sea bridge fiasco, the strong-arming to push Sandals down their throats and the seizing of homes to build a massive and overpriced airport project designed only to feed the kickback machine, so too must Trinidad remember the dismantling of Petrotrin and Caroni that were blamed on losses that did not seem to affect CEPEP and URP.”
He said it was about time that the PNM swallow the lesson of democracy in Tobago especially by a small third force of determined souls.
Alexander said, “They must learn that lesson in Trinidad too. Their incompetence is counted in a broken national economy, streets red with the blood of victims of murder wrought by the guns that come in with the drugs through porous borders they have never secured. Our handling of a global crisis has us battling the highest deaths per million in the world and not even an attempt to listen to the suggestions of others that might save lives. The people have spoken loudly.”
The PEP’s political leader also said that Tobago’s lesson was that the time for the politics of divisiveness and bacchanal was over.
