THE political leader of the People’s Empowerment Party Phillip Edward Alexander is condemning all acts of election vandalism and is distancing his party from a video showing an alleged PEP member tearing down a People’s National Movement (PNM) banner.

In a statement on Friday, Alexander said, “We in the PEP strongly condemn the wave of political mischief. Our candidates have been victims of a dirty tricks campaign through the destruction of advertising material and banners.”

He continued, “We call on those engaging in such behaviour to stop, and we call on members not to respond.”

Regarding a video circulating on social media of a gentleman wearing a PEP shirt in the Diego Martin Northeast constituency pulling down a People’s National Movement banner, Alexander denied the PEP’s involvement.

He said his party had been made aware of operatives from another party dressing in other party’s jerseys engaging in destructive activities.

In a voice note sent to AZP news, Alexander called for a “civilized behaviour in the elections and all of those doing these dirty tricks to stop. It does not help your candidate or yourself.”
