POLITICAL leader of the Progressive Empowerment Party (PEP) Phillip Alexander is calling for a general election to be held immediately due to the failure of the ruling People’s National Movement (PNM) to effectively run the country.

In a statement on Thursday, Alexander said, “Every decision they have made have been wrong, from the handling of the pandemic, the economy and just about everything else.”

Referring to Covid-19, Alexander questioned why infections continued to increase even  after thousands have been vaccinated, the lockdown period and the State of Emergency.

“Surely if what they were doing was working there would be less, not more,” he said.

He also claimed that a particular lawyer was Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley’s personal lawyer who plays a role in the criminal investigation taking place into  “fake oil” involving A&V Drilling and the now defunct Petrotrin.

Alexander also questioned why President Paula-Mae Weekes still remained  in office given the Police Service Commission (PolSC) debacle and why the Attorney General, Minister of National Security and Minister of Finance were not before a court.

Alexander said, “The ship of state is floundering because of massive misbehavior in public office. The Parliament is compromised and can no longer self correct. The only solution is to dissolve the Parliament and call fresh elections.”

“I call on the people of Trinidad & Tobago to open their eyes this morning and demand  that elections be called. This government has not only lost all moral authority to govern, it has strayed into overt criminality. This cannot  be allowed to continue,” Alexander said.
