“Any threat to any MP, any Member of Parliament, any citizen will be put down in the shortest time.”

This was the stern warning given by Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander regarding threats made to him and Finance Minister Devendranath Tancoo by an unidentified man on Saturday evening.

Alexander was speaking to reporters on Monday after touring the abandoned Princes Town Fire Station.

Asked whether he had any concerns about the perceived threat relayed to himself and Tancoo, Alexander said, “I did not view it as a threat, from my experience I thought someone came and had concerns just like any other citizen and he expressed his concerns.”

He added, “Any threat to any MP, any Member of Parliament, any citizen will be put down in the shortest time.”

Considering he viewed the incident as more an expression of concern rather than an act of intimidation, Alexander was asked what message he wished to send the individual and the public.

Alexander said, “the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) executive team was rolling out its anti-crime initiative, strategic and operational plan. We want to give them all the resources that is necessary to achieve the many goals that they have in those plans.”

On Saturday evening a man dressed in dark clothing, armed with cutlass, arrived at Tancoo’s Fyzabad residence on a bicycle.

The called the attention of a female relative of Tancoo’s and warned, “tell Mr Tancoo to tell the Minister of Homeland Security there is a wave in crime in Fyzabad to beef up security and police and doh stay home.”

He then left.

The incident was reported to the Penal Police station and then passed on to the Southwestern Operations Centre.

Insp Gosine, PCs Cummings and Collins of the Divisional Task Force responded and searched the area, but no one matching the description was seen.

Investigations are still ongoing.

Tancoo has yet to speak of the incident.
