Airport Murder Victim Identified

THE man who was shot at the Piarco International Airport has been identified as 33-year-old Arkim Quashie.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) in a media release on Friday stated that it continues to actively investigate the fatal shooting in what appears to be a targeted murder.
Anyone  with relevant information that may assist with the investigation is being urged to contact the police at 555, 999, 911, or report anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477).

Preliminary reports indicate that around 1.45 am on Thursday, the victim, had just arrived in Trinidad on a flight from abroad. Upon exiting the airport, he was picked up by a Hyundai Tucson with two occupants. It is reported that shortly after entering the vehicle, a silver Nissan Tiida pulled alongside the vehicle.
Three armed assailants, reportedly carrying high-powered weapons, emerged from the Tiida and opened fire in Quashie’s direction. The suspects then re-entered the vehicle and fled the scene.
Emergency services responded swiftly however, Quashie succumbed to his injuries.

Another occupant of the vehicle was injured and taken to hospital for medical treatment.
The TTPS stated, “The TTPS understands the public concern surrounding an incident of this nature occurring near the nation’s primary airport. We wish to assure citizens and visitors that this appears to be a targeted attack, and there is no immediate threat to the general public.

“A team of investigators from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations is currently pursuing several leads, and all necessary resources have been deployed to ensure a thorough investigation.”
An urgent meeting was also held on Thursday chaired by Acting DCP Simon, with the participation of DCP Suzette Martin, to address the recent shooting at the Piarco International Airport and broader national security concern.
