AFTER 33 years of water woes in his own backyard, Minister Colm Imbert new and freshly crowned Minister of Public Utilities has finally had a miraculous awakening. WASA needs improvement. Cue the dramatic music.
Yes, folks, it only took three decades of dry taps, low pressure, and resident complaints echoing louder than a burst main for Mr Imbert to realise something might be a bit off with the water supply. Of course, during his 10-year stint as minister of finance, fixing WASA was presumably just not in his administration budget. But how come it is now? Now that he’s wearing the public utilities hat? Suddenly, he’s looking into WASA with the intensity of a man discovering indoor plumbing for the first time.

And let’s not forget, the PNM has been in government for over 60 years. That’s six decades of running the country, during which this “urgent” 33-year water problem in his constituency and many areas of the country somehow managed to avoid detection by everyone… until last week. Amazing how perspective changes when your job title changes.
Imbert assures us that WASA is now on the “front burner.” How convenient, just as the election bell has rung, he’s suddenly rolling up his sleeves and pretending to fix a problem that’s been bone-dry for decades. Nothing says “I care” like a last-minute scramble to look busy before the polls open. Classic pre-election choreography: a shovel in one hand, a promise in the other, and a 33-year-old problem magically discovered just in time to ask for another five. After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day but maybe with enough sod-turning ceremonies and ribbon-cutting photo ops, it’ll look like something’s being done.
Stay hydrated friends, if you can.
