Venezuela Crisis Talks End In Stalemate

BARBADOS – THE political crisis continues in Venezuela after government and opposition failed to reach a deal in Barbados.

The talks were arranged by the government of Norway and saw representatives of Venezuela’s ruling party meeting with adversaries of President Nicholas Maduro.

The government’s delegation was led by Information Minister Jorge Rodriquez who yesterday took to Twitter describing the meeting as “a successful exchange promoted by the government of Norway.”

The talks were meant to ease the stalemate arising out of the disputed 2018 election when Maduro was re-elected president.

Reuters has quoted an unnamed opposition source as saying that both sides could meet again as early as Monday in Barbados.

The press team for opposition leader Juan Guaido, who has been recognised by more than 50 countries as Venezuela’s legitimate leader, said the opposition would make a statement about the talks in the coming hours, Reuters said.

The Norwegian foreign ministry declined to comment on the progress of the talks.
