CHAGUANAS West MP Dr Colin Neil Gosine marked World Read Aloud Day 2026 with a storytelling session at Munroe Road Government Primary School, where he read Jack and the Beanstalk to students and led a discussion on the story’s lessons.

According to a release, Gosine was welcomed by staff and pupils and made the reading interactive by asking students questions and encouraging them to respond to key moments in the fairy tale on Wednesday.

After the reading, he guided students through a discussion on Jack’s decisions and the consequences of his actions. Students shared views on themes including honesty, gratitude and courage, with particular focus on the dangers of greed, as they worked to identify the story’s moral.

Teachers at the school said the visit reinforced the importance of reading for pleasure and comprehension, while showing that learning can be fun and engaging.

World Read Aloud Day is observed internationally to promote literacy, build confidence in reading and encourage a lifelong love of books among children.

Gosine thanked the school for the welcome and emphasised the importance of early literacy. He noted that reading aloud helps build vocabulary, listening skills and critical thinking, while encouraging students to express ideas openly and respectfully.
