Police officers remain stationed at Rio Claro East Secondary School after threats to teachers and pupils last week.
AZP News observed several officers on the school compound on Wednesday and was told they are present during school hours. AZP News was also informed that officers will remain there “as long as needed.”
Last week, Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro confirmed that the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) had launched investigations into threats made against teachers and pupils at the school. He called on the perpetrator(s) to cease and desist, noting that such actions carry severe consequences.
AZP News was told there have been no major incidents since the reports were made. Classes have been conducted as usual, while officers patrol the compound during the day.
Residents living near the school also said there have been no recent major incidents.
Since November, threats have been circulated on TikTok from a profile under the name “Kevin Randial,” and the threats reportedly escalated over time. Both Guevarro and Education Minister Dr Michael Dowlath confirmed that investigations were ongoing.
In November last year, the school was dismissed early following reports of a bomb on the compound.
