McKenzie served Naparima College for 34 years as a teacher, dean and principal, retiring in 1993. Known to staff and students as “Mac,” he was credited with shaping the institution’s academic and holistic approach to education and mentoring generations of students.

In recognition of his service, the school’s Science Block was named in his honour in 2023.

The statement described McKenzie as a principled leader and role model who helped instil values of respect, responsibility and service among students, and said his legacy would endure at the San Fernando-based institution.

The school extended condolences to McKenzie’s family and friends. No wake services are planned, and the family has requested privacy. Funeral arrangements are to be announced at a later date.

Education Minister Dr Michael Dowlath said that McKenzie has left an indelible mark on education in Trinidad and Tobago.
