PRIME Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says her government supports faith-based community initiatives, including a church-led school and a financial institution.
She was speaking during the Trinidad and Tobago Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship International Christmas Organisation Dinner at the Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce Building at Camden in Couva on Thursday evening.
Persad-Bissessar said. “Last year, I promised that when God returned us to office, I would support your efforts to establish: A church-led school grounded in Christian values, discipline, prayer, and moral formation, and A faith-based financial institution, beginning with a credit union, to empower members, uplift families, and strengthen small businesses.”
Persad-Bissessar added that she now stands “firmly behind these commitments” as prime minister.
She invited attendees to “submit detailed proposals in writing so that they may be received and examined with the appropriate care and diligence,” signaling a formal process to move the ideas forward.
Persad-Bissessar said, “Your vision for a church-led school reflects a desire to form morally grounded young people. Your interest in a credit union speaks to your commitment to strengthening families and supporting community life.”
She described the proposals as “meaningful aspirations, rooted in faith, responsibility, and service, and they reflect the kind of nation we all seek to build,” stressing that, together, such efforts could help build communities founded on faith, discipline, and opportunity.
Persad-Bissessar said, “In the spirit of this holy season, let me leave you with this: Christmas reminds us that God is faithful; that hope rises, light returns, and His purpose unfolds in our nation and in our lives.”
She said,“Christ came to strengthen the weary and lift the broken,” and lauded the Fellowship for continuing that mission by “restoring hope, supporting families, and keeping faith alive across Trinidad and Tobago.”
The prime minister said, “Thank you for your steadfast leadership and your unwavering devotion to our people.”
She said, “As we honour the Saviour’s birth, may we all renew our commitment to serve with integrity, lead with humility, and walk boldly in His grace.”
