POLICE intercepted a shipment of high‑grade cannabis concealed in barrels at the Port of Port of Spain, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) announced on Monday.
According to a release, officers acting on credible intelligence identified a location at the Port Authority compound on Dock Road, Port of Spain, as the suspected storage point for illicit cargo. The information was received on Sunday 23 November, 2025, and analysed overnight.
The seizure was made during “Operation BLAST,” a coordinated anti-crime initiative executed between 9:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Monday 24 November, 2025.
The operation was coordinated by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Operations Suzette Martin and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Tactical Support Collis Hazel, and supervised by acting Superintendent Santana and acting Inspector Petti of the National Operational Task Force (NOTF).
Teams from the Port Police, Customs and Excise Division, Special Branch, Special Investigations Unit (SIU), the NOTF, and the DCP Operations Unit carried out a targeted search of two barrels awaiting clearance, which had been shipped from Fort Myers, Florida.
Inside one of the barrels, officers discovered packages of high-grade cannabis concealed beneath layers of clothing. The illegal narcotics weighed 4.605 kilogrammes and carry an estimated street value of $400,000, the TTPS said.
The TTPS noted that it will continue to collaborate with local and international law enforcement partners in efforts to disrupt the trafficking of illegal narcotics and protect communities throughout Trinidad and Tobago.
