Crime Stories: Police Kill Man, Injury Another, Gun, Weed Found

ONE man was killed and two firearms and quantities of ammunition seized, following a police-involved shooting incident which occurred in the Central Division over the weekend.
According to reports, Task Force officers of the Central Division, Areas North and South, assisted by personnel of the Air Support and Canine Units conducted an exercise in the Caroni district on Saturday.
During the exercise, officers proceeded to the home of a 38-year-old suspect, where they allegedly found him inside the structure armed with a gun, a Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) media release on Sunday stated.
The officers alleged the suspect pointed the gun in their direction and in keeping with the Use of Force Policy, they discharged their service issued weapons in the direction of the suspect.
The suspect was injured during the incident and taken to hospital for treatment, where he died.
He has since been identified as Trevon Cumberbatch, of Kelly Village.
One Glock 17 pistol and magazine containing a quantity of ammunition were recovered from the scene.
The operation was coordinated by Snr Supt Bhagwandeen, Supt Glodon ASP Hernandez and ASP Harrilal.
Suspect shot and injured by police
In a separate incident, one robbery suspect was shot and injured by Northern Division police, following a report of armed robbery which culminated in a high speed chase on Saturday night.
Reports are that a woman was seated in her vehicle at her La Horquetta home around 7 pm when she was confronted by a man armed with a gun.

During the incident, the victim was relieved of her Hyundai Elantra motor vehicle.
Task Force Officers responding to the report of the Armed Robbery, observed the stolen vehicle in the Arima district minutes after, and initiated a high-speed pursuit.
It is alleged the suspects in the vehicle fired at the officers, who in keeping with the Use of Force Policy, discharged their service issued firearms in the direction of the vehicle, which crashed in the Mt Pleasant area.
The driver, a 25-year-old man, was found to have sustained gunshot wounds and taken to the hospital for treatment, while the other suspect escaped into some nearby bushes.
One firearm was recovered from the scene.

Additionally, officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force, conducted an exercise between 2 pm and 8.30 pm on Saturday during which several patrols were carried out in the Port of Spain and North Eastern Divisions.
During a search of the Snake Valley district, the officers found several plastic packages containing a total of 3.1 kilogrammes of cannabis.
The exercise was spearheaded by ACP Hazel, Snr Supt Ramnarine, Supt. Ramsook and ASP Singh.

In the Western Division, Task Force officers conducted an exercise between 2 pm and 10 pm also on Saturday.
During the exercise, the officers proceeded to the Cocorite district, where they conducted a search at Building D, Powder Magazine.
There they found one Glock 19 pistol loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition.
The exercise was sanctioned by Snr Supt Williams and coordinated by Insp Grant.
Investigations are ongoing into the above matters.
