A JAMAICAN national is amongst three persons expected to appear before a Master of the High Court charged with Possession of Forged Currency Notes.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) reported via media release on Sunday, that an intelligence-led operation was conducted in Area West of the North Central Division, between 5 pm and 7 pm last Tuesday by officers of the St Joseph Criminal Investigations Department.
During the exercise, the officers proceeded to McInroy Street, Curepe, where they paid surveillance to the area and subsequently arrested a 20-year-old male suspect for being in possession of US$1,900 counterfeit cash.
The man was later found to be a Jamaican national who is in the country illegally.
Further checks were made at the home of the suspect, where two female suspects were found, along with US$5,600 cash.
The female suspects, a 36-year-old Jamaican national and mother of the male suspect and a 32-year-old family friend, were arrested in connection with the find.
The seized cash was later confirmed to be counterfeit by the Forensic Science Centre.
The trio is expected to appear in the Tunapuna Masters’ Court on Monday.
The operation was spearheaded by ACP Singh, Snr. Supt. Gift, Supt. Jaggernath and coordinated by ASP Bharath and Insp Peters.
Venezuelan nationals held
And 11 suspected Venezuelan nationals, including one minor, were detained and quantities of contraband seized, by officers of the South Western Division, during an Operation HELIOS exercise, this weekend.
The TTPS reported that Task Force Areas East and West officers, with the assistance of personnel of the Erin Police Station, Canine Unit and the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, conducted the exercise between 8 am on Saturday and 8 am on Sunday in the Erin district.
Acting on intelligence, the officers proceeded to the Erin Beach Facility, where they found 11 persons believed to be Venezuelan nationals who are in the country illegally, hiding in a bushy area.
Further searches along the shoreline resulted in the discovery of 112 bottles of alcohol and quantities of sausage and cheese.
Officials of the Immigration Division were contacted and investigations are ongoing.
The operation was sanctioned by DCP ‘Operations’ Suzette Martin, spearheaded by Snr Supt Thompson and coordinated by ASPs Corrie and Forbes.
