Student to be Charged for Pocketknife, Weed

CHARGES are expected to be laid against a 16-year-old Form Four secondary school pupil who was detained after police discovered cannabis and a concealed weapon in his possession.
Reports are that around 8.20 am on Monday, an officer was conducting a routine foot patrol on the compound of the secondary school when he observed a pupil acting suspiciously, a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) revealed.
The behaviour aroused the officer’s concern and he alerted the school’s safety officer and principal, requesting their presence as he carried out a search.

While escorting the pupil to the principal’s office to conduct the search in a private setting, the officer noticed the pupil handing a rag to another pupil.
The officer immediately intervened, retrieved the rag, and upon checking it in the presence of the principal and safety officer, found a translucent plastic bag containing 15 packets of cannabis.
The substance was later weighed in their presence and amounted to 10 grams.
 A further search of the pupil revealed a concealed dangerous weapon- a pocketknife approximately four inches in length.
 The principal and safety officer contacted the Valencia Police Station, and officers from the COPS Unit, responded.

The pupil  was taken to the Sangre Grande Police Station, where his mother later arrived.
He was subsequently taken, along with officers, to the Sangre Grande Regional Hospital, where a police medical certificate was obtained in his favour.
He was later conveyed to the Booking Centre, Maracas/St Joseph, pending placement at the Juvenile Suite after consultation with Duty Counsel.
The pupil is expected to have with a court appearance scheduled for Wednesday.
