ELECTRICAL upgrades have caused disruptions to clinical services at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWSMC) in Mt Hope from Friday to Monday.
In a release on Thursday, the North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA) stated that this is to facilitate major electrical upgrades to the complex’s electrical systems.
It stated that an urgent and essential electrical upgrade would be undertaken on one of the two major transformers on the electrical grid at EWMC beginning Friday, 19 September 2025, at 6 am and ending Monday, 22 September 2025, at 6 am.
The NCRHA stated that Outpatient Clinics and Elective Surgeries scheduled for Friday would be postponed.
Radiology appointments (CT scans, MRIs, ultrasounds, X-rays) would be postponed for all three days.
The NCRHA stated patients would be notified of rescheduled appointments and if they had not, they were urged to contact 645-2629.
The NCRHA said critical and emergency patients would be seen at their Emergency Departments during this period.
For non-emergency cases, they have asked the public to utilise district healthcare facilities and health centres.
The NCRHA assured that critical care would continue uninterrupted and contingency plans had been put into place to safeguard patients and staff.
The Authority thanked the public for their understanding as they undergo these critical electrical upgrades.
